Cygnus Instruments was founded in 1983 by George Edes, a commercial diver and a ship surveyor. Sadly, George and his wife died in 1988. What followed was a series of turbulent chapters for the business. Their daughter (Lulu) joined Cygnus in 2005 determined to protect her father’s legacy. Those tough times are now in the company’s past, but appreciated because the team is strong-willed and passionate as a result.

40 years on, this year Cygnus have been celebrating their 40th anniversary, and reflecting back on the challenges, successes and most importantly, the progress the company has achieved during that time.
Diversifying product lines for wider industries
Over 4 decades, Cygnus have listened to and adapted to the needs of the market, diversifying their product range in response to the challenges their customers face. From our original corrosion analyser, intrinsically safe equipment, and our first diver-held gauge, the time and experiences in ultrasonic testing above and below water have led us on to ultrasonic leak detection for hatch covers and weathertight seals, subsea ROV inspection, and ultrasonic flooded member detection.
Our most recent releases, Cygnus 1 Ex and Cygnus Underwater, as well as our continued investment in further research and technologies, are now launching us forward into competitive new ground.

Cygnus’ network of distributors is worldwide, with the most recent additions stretching across the USA. These efficient local services provide excellent accessibility to our products, more local to you.
This ensures optimal customer support from their first contact with Cygnus to continuous maintenance throughout the equipment’s life.
Elevating Cygnus brand and customer experience
Each year we are attending more and more exhibitions and events worldwide, which offer great opportunities to connect with Cygnus’ users and gain a deeper understanding of their requirements as well as wider industry uses. This generates mutual benefit to Cygnus and our customers.
In between events, our sales team are constantly out on the road, visiting our customers globally; the best way to fully understand users’ day-to-day working practices and challenges. This understanding is valuable in informing our continued efforts to provide the best service, offer training where needed, and conduct research to continually improve our product offering.
Building even more robust and reliable equipment
We’re always looking ahead to the next big project! Most recently, we launched the Cygnus 1 Ex and the new Cygnus Underwater is only just around the corner! Over the years, we’ve successfully released a number of hero products, from the Cygnus Hatch Sure in 2009, the Cygnus Dive in 2012, and the very popular Mk5 Surface Range in 2015, to the Cygnus FMD in 2018!
